As I've noted some mails ago, JDK1.4.1 is going to use more of the
"direct" API's of windows, so your "warm fuzzy" feeling is correct :-)
As a consequence, some of your old and buggy video drivers (especially
some of the SiS onboard types and ATI Rage (mostly concerns the Rage
Mobility users, like me :-( ).
As a result of this, either try to upgrade to the LATEST video drivers
either from M$ itself (they are not fast, but in most cases stable)
or from the video card manufacturer. And upgrade your DirectX version
according to the drivers (this one is often forgotten).
If all that fails, try to start "dxdiag" and disable (under the
grapics tab) directx and draw one for one, and try when it's ok.
On my notebook, disabling ddraw completely was the only thing which
helped :-(((
(runnig W2ksp3, all flavours of 1.4.x and jEdit 4.1pre5 correctly)
There are some command line switches which help out in these cases,
but if you start your app via Webstart, you're off.
Sun is thinking about a good/bad list of drivers, which enable or
disable certain optimisation of the JVM...
Does anyone know WHICH changes there were between 1.4.1 and 1.4.1_01?
The changes list is unchanged.
sincerely,
