Can't set sysLocation and syscontact in mib-II!

Hello,

I can't set sysLocation and sysContact in the mib-II. I see that the error 
code says that i don't have the correct file permission when i use snmp set.
I have started snmpd with -c to tell what configuration file i would like to 
use for this purpose. When i do a snmp get i get the information that i have 
stored in this configuration file for sysLocation and sysContact. This file 
have correct permissions.
I'm working under an embedded system with only /etc writable in flash. /usr 
is a read only.
Anyone can help me out with this? I guess snmpd is trying to creta a new 
snmpd.conf file somewhere....

You can't have them set in your snmpd.conf file and support them via
SNMP SETs.  You must pick one method of assigning a value to that
node.  (effectively, setting it in the snmpd.conf file turns the node
into a read-only object)

i am using 4.2.1 In my case, even if i set sysLocation and sysContact in 
conf file, i can set it using snmpset and all get calls return this new 
value. But this set is not persistent. I mean when i restart my agent 
and do snmpget on sysContact/sysLocation, i get the values that are 
stored in snmpd.conf. though i am using an old version of snmpd, i just 
want to know is this a bug or a feature ?

try using the -C option along with -c option. This may help

This is fixed in 4.2.3, which you should upgrade to immediately for
security reasons as well.
