Seems like it would be useful at least to have an indication that people ar=
e online in a collapsed group. If space is an issue then just a count of on=

I liked the group counts, personally.  Is there some compelling reason<BR>

This would satisfy my use of them.

I really think having the corner case of not having group counts on
expanded groups is not useful. I still want to see all the group
counts. I vote for reverting everything as it was before.
