After educating myself about job control finesse by reading parts of
it turns out that this is the exact same problem that plagued the
attempts to run a shell under sbcl: RUN-PROGRAM puts the child in its
own process-group, but fails to give it control of the terminal, and
programs like shells and less are likely to loop waiting to get control
of the terminal.
I'll try to get this fixed before the week is out.
