Linux Infrared Remote Control

Same problem here, Gentoo 2.6.16-r3

Tried everything from packages to source and CVS ... No go

Looks like it may be a serial port issue/change in the kernel, as I get
Exactly 1 recognized keypress out of my mp3remote, then she stops

Any body have any details ??? Ideas

Do you have tried the lirc-0.8.0 ebuild?

I have indeed tried ... most everything

Looks like the change in the kernel serial happened somewhere after
2.6.14-r5, LIRC is broken in 2.6.15 and 2.6.16 revs

I tried the 8.0.0. ebuild no go , I also tried the 8.0.0 source and the
CVS (8.0.1), all with the same result

BTW really useful to add '-enable-debug' to the LIRC_OPT in your make
debugging made easier.
I duplicated the process on my desktop (2.6.14-r5) and all is well from
ebuild and sources, every time I do a raw cat on the serial I get the
data, Lirc just doesnt get it ( cat /dev/ttyS0 | hexdump )

I assume this is just for compiling?  I have a 2.6.16-1.2096_FC5smp kernel
installed right now (it IS a stock kernel) and have no problems getting the
serial driver to either load or getting lirc to respond to keypresses...

Someone out there has to have it compiling correctly as there are RPMs built
with the binaries that are working for quite a few people.  The following
Fedora RPMS for LIRC are installed on my system as of now (this is a new
system built from scratch with a fresh OS install, YMMV)

lirc-devices-0.7.0-1.rhfc5.at
lirc-0.8.1-cvs20060325_57.rhfc5.at
lirc-lib-0.8.1-cvs20060325_57.rhfc5.at
lirc-kmdl-2.6.16-1.2096_FC5smp-0.8.1-cvs20060325_57.rhfc5.at

Obviously the LIRC that's installed for my FC5 system is a CVS version
gotten from ATRPMS.

I have alyso tried to install lirc on fedora rc 5 latest kernel, but get
evertime the error message that the kernel module is not installed.
Configure goes all right but the make command returns everytime with the
kernel is not installed. However when I check with rpm -q if lic-kmdl it
says that the kernel module is installed.
Is there anybody who ave a idea how to compile the kernel module myself and
not using the rpm manager.

Why should you do that? But anyway do the following:

rpm -qa \*lirc\*

to setect all lirc packages and then cut and paste into

rpm -e <package1> <package2> <...>
