What you are seeing and misinterprete is possibly the activity of us on 
the madwifi-bsd branch. The madwifi head cvs has not been updated for a 
while now.
Main development is done on the madwifi-bsd branch now.
Once again, madwifi-bsd is a branch for linux. The name just indicates 
that the bsd driver has been ported to linux.

hello!

most of the work is going on in the "BSD" branch in the CVS. "BSD branch"=20
means that this is the branch where we track the changes and additions from=
=20
=46reeBSD (it does *not* mean that this is a driver for BSD). it contains s=
ome=20
features which are not in the main branch: most notably ad-hoc mode and WME=
=2E=20
we hope that we can sometimes make the BSD branch the default branch of=20
madwifi, but this requires still more testing.

you can check it out with=20

cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@... \
co -r BSD madwifi

Thanks a lot. From your comment "Main development is done on the
madwifi-bsd branch now." and Bruno Randolfs "we hope to that we can
sometimes make the BSD branch the default branch of madwifi, but this
requires still more testing", I interprete this as the current branch is dead and the BSD is where development is taking place.

Maybe you should mentions this on http://madwifi.sourceforge.net and put a little bit more details in FAQ point 10.4.

This is not entirely correct. While it's true that development currently 
takes place in the BSD-*branch* this doesn't mean that the HEAD-branch 
is dead. HEAD-branch is more or less stable and should be the codebase 
to use for most users, while BSD-branch is very experimental and not yet 
ready for the masses. This situation is similar to the one we had a 
while back with HEAD vs. WPA.
