no need to recreate the image but then you are not using the data project=20
anymore and cannot change that setting anyway. ;)

Where do I set that?  I think I remember seeing this when making a
data DVD, but with burning an ISO image I don't.  There is a setting
"Writing Mode", currently at auto.  Should I set that to DAO, or is
there something else I need to do?

I've never had the nerve to try multisession mode.  If this experiment
works, does it mean that's broken for me?

Just writing the image should work as the problem you described was a k3b d=

Writing the image worked fine.

Oddly, doing another write from the data project also worked fine,
with the same options as before.  I have the same version of k3b as
before (Debian 0.12.17-2+b1).

What does this mean I should do in the future?

I continue to experience the pread64 problem, although burning the ISO
has always worked as a fallback.  The problem seems particularly
likely when I've just started k3b.  For example, today when the DVD
data project got to burning the DVD it wouldn't detect that I had a
DVD loaded.  When I hit force I got the pread64 error.  I was then
able to burn the ISO image successfully.

On my second data dvd, k3b again wouldn't detect the DVD.  This time
when I hit force the burning did continue, though it seemed to have a
delay starting.  The image verified OK.

In both cases I set the mode to DAO.  I've since (re)discovered that
multisession mode is sent elsewhere.  However, since I was making and
preserving an ISO image, and it says multi-session is only available

Did your earlier remarks mean this is fixed in more recent versions?
Today I'm at Debian k3b 0.12.17-5 with linux-image-2.6.17-2-686.
