I think I can guess why it is done on save. You can save a document to
different places, and the relative paths from each one will be
different. Therefore it stores absolute path while in memory and only
converts it to relative on save (and perhaps converts it back to
absolute on load). Maybe there may be a better way to fo this, but at
least that makes sense to me.
There's also the sodipodi:absref attribute. Where is it used, if at
all? Maybe it would be better to do the same thing as now (absolute in
memory, relative on save) but use only the sodipodi:absref for storing
the absolute path?
