::-I've been using xmms for a while, but the project as a whole seems to have
::-grinded to a halt. BMP has forked from it and XMMS2 is a apparently a
::-complete rewrite. I was thinking of Music Player Daemon (MPD), something
::-that doesn't need Xwindows, but does any one know if there's lirc support
::-for it? Any other suggestions?
Although this is not what you want to hear, I use xmms. Although it is a bit dated right
now, it does everything I (and most reasonable people) need, with not _too_ much memory
While it would probably be trivial to find a irexec + command line way to operate an MPD
server, I am not sure if that is even ideal for you. Regular desktops are not really what
that sort of thing was designed for I believe. But by all means, if you want to try
something new out, see how running an mpd server + lirc controllable client + possibly gui
client for controll from x works. There may very well be some useful stuff there.
