There is a newer version of Apple's X11 that comes with OS X Tiger.
It is not installed by default though so your friend will have to put
the install DVD in then open the 'Optional Installs' package (he'll
probably have to scroll down to see it). The installation is pretty
self-explanitory - X11 is under "Applications".
