I'd like to ask a question. It may seem silly, however the manpage is
unclear in the case, and should be extended I think.
-M test directive should send a test mail upon smartd start in order to
test the delivery of messages. However, the -M directive in general is
intended to "change the behaviour of -m"
So the unclear area:
Does the -M test signalise smartd to send ONLY the test email on
startup, and stop other mail communication then?
Or the other mail communication continues as before and the test message
is just ON THE TOP of that, as an addition?
I'd assume the second choice, but don't want to risk my production
servers. So please, could You answer me?
Then, please, extend the manpage with the info (such as "this causes
other email communication of smartd to stop" or "other mail
communication of smartd is not affected").
And possibly extend the FAQ page too.
Thank You very much for the smartmontools
