To Keith:
I renamed d:\msys\1.0\mingw to d:\msys\1.0\mingw2, did the changes in
fstab and profile files and it works. I don't know why there is a problem
with mingw subdir. It always worked before.
One thing: my firewall stopped scanning files in that directoy. That's the
only specific thing that occurs in d:\msys\1.0\mingw, afaict.

indeed, it's like that. With mingw2 :
$ od -t a /etc/fstab
0000000 nl d : / m s y s / 1 . 0 / m i n
0000020 g w 2 ht / m i n g w nl nl
0000034
is it a problem ?
