Is this motivated by "hairy arg parsing entry point" or somesuch? In
that case, it is not the argument which is hairy, but the parsing :-)
binding variables to values introduced by keywords, assigning a &rest
list, and the like.

In principle yes -- at least, it _ought_ to work. If it doesn't, we
