I have subject IDE USB enclosure that doesn't appear to work (yet). lsusb output is attached. The closest -d option I get is: [root@helen ~]# smartctl -d sat -i /dev/sda smartctl 5.39 2009-09-12 r2910 [i686-redhat-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-9 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: [No Information Found] Serial Number: [No Information Found] Firmware Version: [No Information Found] Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: 1 ATA Standard is: Exact ATA specification draft version not indicated Local Time is: Wed Sep 23 19:13:48 2009 MST SMART is only available in ATA Version 3 Revision 3 or greater. We will try to proceed in spite of this. SMART support is: Ambiguous - ATA IDENTIFY DEVICE words 82-83 don't show if SMART supported. A mandatory SMART command failed: exiting. To continue, add one or more '-T permissive' options. This is a little weird, because the enclosure is Acomdata model HDEUHE-504 (http://www.acomdata.com/504.asp). I'm not sure why lsusb isn't showing Acomdata as the manufacturer. Note, this is for PATA, not SATA devices. Any insights? -- -Eric 'shubes' |

Probably an older model and at that time AcomData/DuraMicro had no own USB-ID. It is typical that the default ID from the USB chip manufacturer is used then. Info added to wiki. I will also add it as unsupported to the USB table. Thanks, Christian |
