Actually, I found out hyperterminal (XP Version) also automatigically
launches rz too.
So all you need to do is "Send File" with zmodem and the file will be
deposited in the current working directory on the gumstix.

You can use zmodem file transfer. Some terminal programs, like minicom
will automatically launch rz on the gumstix, others, like
HyperTerminal, require you to run rz manually and then initiate the
zmodem file transfer from the PC.
