Over the last few months I've been working on a Goliath based (a
prototype kindly donated by Gumstix) high altitude flight computer
which utilises the onboard gps and gsm modules and has a radio
attached to the soundcard (transmitting packet radio and also sstv of
images). There is also a Canon PowerShot A560 running CHDK firmware
periodically taking pictures and videos. Originally it was planned to
have a secondary camera attached to the gumstix over usb which could
utilise remote capture and these images could then be sent over the
radio (using sstv) however time has defeated me and I haven't been
able to implement this - something for the next flight!
The balloon and payload are going to be launched tomorrow from
Cambridge, UK at around 10.30am (GMT+1). Its forecast to travel about
80km and land in Norfolk, UK.
If anyone is interested there 'should' be online tracking at
http://spacenear.us/tracker/ and also tracking and discussion on
#highaltitude99 on irc.freenode.net.
