Since we cannot edit s-mw.org, allow me to propose a change to the
website here. The page [[Help:Inline queries]] is very
under-developed and in need of attention. The two examples of
template use show example code, but the "gives" that follow are blank.
Also, all the "output formats" are links, but they don't go anywhere.
N-ary's (my main concern) are not even mentioned on the page, and
their results are especially hard to manage. At present, it seems NO
ONE has found a solution for handling N-ary data that doesn't involve
the following additional extensions:
Parser Functions - http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:ParserFunctions
Variables Extension - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:VariablesExtension
String Functions - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:StringFunctions
Character Escapes - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Character_Escapes
Loops - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Loops
If you're using pre 1.12alpha, you'll need Control Structure Functions
instead. I'm also going to try RegexParserFunctions
of String Functions, but I haven't attempted that yet.
Mainly I just wanted to post this list of extensions so that some poor
fool googling "N-ary templates" would have a starting point. If Bruce
B. hadn't pointed me to eurekajournals, where he's attempted some of
these things, I would've been lost forever. N-ary-based ontologies
are natural for a lot of the data people are putting up out there, but
they're very hard to manage or search. Maybe some of us noobs who are
trying this could compare notes on the side?
