Hi Hiro:

Try looking at how the python examples are run in the _installed_
examples/python directory.  There is a configured file installed there which
tells python where to find the installed PLplot python modules.

Thank you for the reply.

I tried running the python examples, xw*.py, plplot_python_start.py
and some execute files. When running those files, I got error message:
  Fatal Python error: Interpreter not initialized (version mismatch?)
  Abort trap

plplot_python_start.py tell me that there is the plplot python module
in /opt/local/lib/python2.6/site-packages.

And then I re-install plplot with python25 as which python_select was
run before installation of plplot. However, the installation failed
with attached error message.

Please let me know;
 1) Which is better for plplot, python25 or python26?
 2) How to install plplot with python25 if plplot requires forcedly python25 ?

Hi Hiro:

Try this:

cd examples/python

./x01 -dev xwin

Does that work?

To explain the above, xw??.py are not standalone python scripts.  Instead,
x?? are standalone python scripts that import xw??.py.

Hope that helps with how you should test your PLplot installation.

Currently, I just have python-2.5 installed, but I believe others here have
used 2.6 without troubles.  Our CMake-based build system simply finds the
latest python installation on your system and uses that (which I assume
would be 2.6 in your case). It's possible for you to run into trouble if you
had say a python-2.6 installation (which PLplot would use) while the python
command itself pointed to your python-2.5 installation rather than your
python-2.6 installation.

I am going to put this back on list because there are questions for others
here.  At the end though I ask you to send me more information off list.

Is there some remnant of your python-2.5 install attempts that is messing
you up or do you have an absolutely clean python-2.6 install?

Can you run a test non-PLplot python script with your pure python-2.6 install?

Other than those two fairly unlikely possibilities, I am afraid I am out of
ideas. Has anybody else here tried PLplot with python-2.6?  Personally, I
think it should just work if the python installation is fine since that has
been my experience for other python version changes, but I could be wrong
because I am not in a position to try python-2.6 for myself.

Hiro, the other thing for you to do is to follow good bug reporting
procedure and give all the details.  Hardware platform (64 bit or 32 bit,
Intel or PC or ??), operating system (with version), cmake options, cmake
output (starting from an empty build tree and newly unpacked source tree),
PLplot version, make output, make install output, and (in the installed
examples tree), "make test" output.  Send all those different kinds of
output to me off list (preferably wrapped in a compressed tarball).
