In case anyone else runs across this same problem on Mac OS X, I found 
the solution here:

Looks like the test in binutils-uclibc.mk looks specifically for 
/usr/bin/msgfmt (among other paths), but in my case it was installed in 
/usr/local/bin.  A symlink took care of it.

Last night, I spent a few hours hosing my system (Win XP) trying to get =
buildroot working properly.

Installed it to c:\Program Files\coLinux
Installed WinPcap (Per coLinux instructions)
Modified the .xml file per instructions.
unpacked the debian and swap files
then ran the daemon command from the command line.

result =3D BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)

One thing that I could not get to work was bridging my LAN connection =
with the TAP-Win32 adapter. It keeps telling me blah blah about =
selecting two LAN connections not being used by connection sharing. =
Neither of these are being shared. I WAS able to bridge the TAP-Win32 =
with my wireless adapter, but did not try running the daemon with that.

So, any advice?

I could dual boot my system with Linux if I have to, and if yall think =
that would help.

Did you try to launch coLinux without the service?
Try a batch file containing:
colinux-daemon.exe -t nt -c default.colinux.xml

To share the internet connection with the colinux, I installed a proxy
server (proxyplus).
It works fine...

It never tried to build the buildroot under coLinux...
Be careful, compiling buildroot require free space very much free space.

I am compiling buildroot and my additions all the time in colinux under
WindowsXP Pro 2002 SP1. I just followed the wiki instructions
for setting up colinux. No issues at all for a long time.
This is from colinux:
