I wonder if you know of any convention on how to sort lastnames.
In my database most of the lastnames are:
Jose /PEREZ ROJAS/
(two lastnames are used in most latinamerica)
So this person should be sorted by the P, as in the phonebook.
However some lastnames, particularly old ones are more like
Francisco /DE LA GARZA OVIEDO/
Francisco /GARZA Y OVIEDO/
Francisco /DE GARZA Y OVIEDO/
, with the particles 'DE' and 'DE LA'. Right now GRAMPS sorts them
in the D. Some european lastnames may have this with the 'von'.
Is there a way to exclude this from the lastname? Should this be
done? I am thinking in something like
typing Francisco /de la GARZA OVIEDO/
and getting him listed as
GARZA OVIEDO (de la), Francisco.
My current trick is to put the 'de la' in the name itself, but
anyway, what do you think?
