It would help to know exactly what OS you're using (i.e. Windows 98 SE,
RedHat Linux 7.2, etc).
What happens when you try to record using your operating system's
built-in sound recorder, i.e. Windows Sound Recorder? If the settings
are right for that, Audacity should record too...
There may be a bug in version 0.97 which is preventing Audacity from
using your ESS AudioDrive driver; version 0.98 will be out soon...
