Our open-source ICU project has transliteration functions, and rules for
many scripts. If you need different rules from what we have, or if you
need to make modifications, then you can supply your own rules to the ICU
functions. If you do have better rules, please let us know :-)
For occasional use, you can try the online demo for this functionality:
http://oss.software.ibm.com/cgi-bin/icu/tr
This also has links with an overview etc.
(Try selecting "Arabic" for Source1 and "Latin" for Target1, then type or
paste some Arabic text into the Input field.)

Subject: transliteration, Arabic to Latin characters
Dear Sir/Madame:
I am working on an English text for a book that requires the occasional
transliteration from Arabic (Egyptian) to Latin characters.
I wonder if there are software products that do that. Do you have such a
product for sale? Where do I get information about it? Do you know of
other products?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
