No, it's not about gratifications - it's about starting the *persistent* login-database, and this being the first start of our to-become persistent world. Users have to log in to use Gladiator, don't they?
*That* exactly is the starting point. Make the underlying database persistent, and presto!, there we are. Somehow I'm convinced you have already done the login-structure... ;-)))
Simply add the "fame"-value to each Player in the database, and a sub-table that declares the source of fame - good and "successful" play, or contribution. At first this could be like "ten points of fame for every contributor" so far - so that we developers have an edge, as for sure the average player will be better at our game than we are... ;-)
Ok, it's not *that* important, dub it onto you "todo"-database somewhere deep inside... :)
