As many of you may already be aware there was a hackathon held early this month for the Library of Congress Newspaper Viewer. At the hackathon we discussed the possibility of developing an optional component that would provide the functionality to make use of article-level data for the LC Newspaper Viewer. As it stands now, there is no standard for article-level metadata. We would like approach Clay Redding and start a discussion with the goal of developing a standard for article-level data. Once a standard is agreed upon, it will be easier to develop the component for article-level capabilities in the LC Newspaper Viewer.
I'm calling out to those familiar with their institution's article-level metadata. It would be beneficial to have you on the initial conference call. Depending on the outcome, we may later include vendors who produce the article-level data. Maybe we could even convince vendors that have developed commercial display systems share with us how they handle different article-level schemas.
Hopefully we can get together and come up with a plan that will lead to providing article-level functionality to the LC Newspaper Viewer.
