I have been using the debian root_fs without problems for a while now.
Decided to try out RedHat 7.1 root_fs.
My host OS is itself RedHat 7.1 (redhat supplied standard kernel).
I installed user_mode_linux-220.127.116.11um-0.i386.rpm from sourceforge and used
the 7.1 root_fs from http://uml-pub.ists.dartmouth.edu/.
On bunzipping the pristine 7.1 root_fs and renaming it to root_fs and simply
running it with command: linux (which works fine with the debian root_fs
from sourceforge), the kernel boots up for a bit but then hangs after the
"Mounted devfs on /dev"
I have since downloaded root_fs_redhat_7.0_big.bz2 from sourceforge and
tried it instead but with the same failed result.
i.e. linux ubd0=root_fs_debian worked fine, but
linux ubd0=root_fs_redhat, hangs after message "Mounted devfs on /dev".
I expect I am doing something daft. Am I missing something here?
