Initial Comment:
Configuration: Compaq Presario 2100 (notebook), CPU AMD 1.6 GHz, Video ATI Radeon IGP 320M
RAM 448 MB (2 x 256 MB - 64 MB used by onboard video card)
Windows XP Home SP1, limited user.
Version: 0.10.2, default installation (no additional objects, catalogues, plugins)
Other settings: flag_milky_way = false, fullscreen = false, screen_w = 800, screen_h = 600
This problem does not probably involve any programming fixes, just explanation in the user guide how the location, computer time and Windows zone setting work together.
Scenario: The computer was originally set in European time zone with European time. After travel east (e.g. Kuala Lumpur), the time was changed to the local time, the zone was kept as it was before.
After changing location in Stellarium in Location window (e.g. KL), the things do not add up. The Sun sets at noon, rises at midnight, simply, there is time shift because
the Windows time zone seems to take priority over geographical location.
Workaround: Choose the location where you are (e.g. KL). Set Use as default. Update the field Name/City to new name and click on Add to List. Leave Location window. This will create directory data in Stellarium user directory (C:\Documents and Settings\$USER\Application Data\Stellarium\data under Windows XP)
(where $USER is your windows login) and there will be file user_locations.txt. Quit Stellarium.
Update the file user_locations.txt, there is latitude and longitude. Leave latitude as it is and change longitude to the longitude of your home European location. (You can find the longitudes and latitudes you might need in Stellarium installation directory (C:\Program Files\Stellarium\data under Windows) in the file base_locations.txt.
Start Stellarium, open Location window and set your default location to the name you chose before to add to list. Geographically you are not in the right place but the sky above corresponds to your computer time even if your windows time zone is different.
