>Summary: WIN32: when run from another dir, cannot find icons/docs
Initial Comment:
... when starting from the command line.
I put the directory where inkscape lives into PATH to
start inkscape from cmd.exe by just typing "inkscape".
When I do this, inkscape is not able to find the icon
file or the documentation as long as the cwd differs
from the directory where inkscape is installed.
When finding out about the problem I also noticed, that
under Windows, inkscape does not honor the HOME
environment variable. To help inkscape find its icons I
put them under %HOME\.inkscape, but it did not help.
Some notes about solving the problem:
Inkscape is perfect for putting it on a USB-stick,
since it seems to be fully independent from registry
settings etc. and it puts all files into its directory
- very nice!!! Please keep it this way. I am not a
C-programmer, but as far as I know, you can find out
about the location where inkscape lives by evaluating
ARGV/ARGC.
PS: What about providing inkscape for windows as a
zipfile too. This will help to avoid doing the
following: "install, zip, uninstall" to get the files.
