This is just a general enquiry about how walk navigation and terrain following may progress in the future.
We are working on reconstructing historic landscapes, you can see some x3dom examples at http://www.herwales.co.uk/iron/xd/
All the terrains are thinned down IFS and performance is good with some quite big models.
The models are starting to look great in x3dom but we do find a few problems when the user tries to walk through the landscape .. which is a big deal for us.
1) The viewpoint seems to sit just bellow the surface irrespective of avatar height.
2) When walking forward the viewpoint jumps up and down as you cross the face edges of the mesh.
3) Navigation is very difficult to control and in Game Mode the view just roles up to the sky as if the observers have fallen on their back.(It would be so good if there was an option to navigate with arrow keys same as Contact & Instant Player. (Sorry to keep making Iplayer comparisons.))
We do understand that you are developing x3dom on may fronts and walk navigation may not be a priority just now.But it would be very good to know this might be looked at again in the not too distant future and we could then carry on developing with x3dom.
Thanks again for all your work on plugin free web3d, X3dom isn't far from being a serious game engine.
