Hi all, I'd like to be able to drive the focus on a Nikon DSLR. From reading the archives it seems that this is only possible in live view mode (this means when the shutter is open and light falls on the CCD, is that right?). The thread I found was: http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=20101207082046.GA3659%40jet.franken.de&forum_name=gphoto-devel However if I try this I get: $ gphoto2 --capture-preview --set-config /main/actions/manualfocusdrive=100 *** Error *** Failed to set new configuration value 100 for configuration entry /main/actions/manualfocusdrive. *** Error (-1: 'Unspecified error') *** Is there anything else I can try? My logfile is here, in case it's any help: http://www.vips.ecs.soton.ac.uk/development/my-logfile.txt John |

Does doing a preview shot afterwards and draining events with: gphoto2 --capture-preview --wait-event=1s --set-config /main/actions/manualfocusdrive=100 --wait-event=2s --capture-preview Change anything? No, sadly: $ gphoto2 --capture-preview --wait-event=1s --set-config /main/actions/manualfocusdrive=100 --wait-event=2s --capture-preview Waiting for 1 seconds for events from camera. Press Ctrl-C to abort. UNKNOWN PTP Property 5013 changed UNKNOWN PTP Property d103 changed *** Error *** Failed to set new configuration value 100 for configuration entry /main/actions/manualfocusdrive. Waiting for 2 seconds for events from camera. Press Ctrl-C to abort. Killed It wanders off into swap death before being killed by the system, I guess it's capturing a lot of preview frames and holding on to them. The lens does not move. If I ask for a logfile: $ env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --debug-logfile=my-logfile.txt --capture-preview --wait-event=1s --set-config /main/actions/manualfocusdrive=100 --wait-event=2s --capture-preview Killed I get an 83MB file! I shan't attach it to this email. It doesn't seem to get as far as the focus: $ grep manualfoc my-logfile.txt $ John |
