I really do love Fire's ability to speak events to me particularly when Fire
is in the background, and I can tell who needs attention before I give it to
them. Way cool!
However, the "Mute the front chat window" preference under the application
tab in the sound preference pane mutes both the voice notifications and the
It would be great to be able to get short sounds in the front chat window
but no speech in the front chat window if I want. That way I can tell when
someone sends me a message in the background (and who it is) and also I can
tell when the person I'm talking with sends me a reply in the foreground
with a less obtrusive sound.
I would like to suggest that perhaps the "Mute the front chat window" option
could be split into two sets of settings:
"Mute sounds in the front chat window"
"Mute speech in the front chat window"
Or if you want to be uniform about it, and really this is probably the best
approach in my view, change the tab title "Application" to "Sound
Properties", change the three checkboxes in that pane to:
"Mute sounds in front chat window"
"Disable sounds when I'm away"
"Disable sounds when I'm idle"
And then under the "Speech" tab add:
"Mute speech in front chat window"
"Disable speech when I'm away"
"Disable speech when I'm idle"
And add a separate slider for speech volume under the speech tab.
