[opennms-docs] OpenNMS and NRPE

Hi all,

I am new to both OpenNMS and this list. For the company I am working for 
we installed OpenNMS after some tests with BigBrother, cacti, Nagios and 
Zabbix. We fell in love with OpenNMS, so that is what we are going to 
use. Since we needed a feature to run commands on remote machines (not 
everything is possible through SNMP), I decided to use the NRPE plugin 
for testing purposes. One of the things I hate is wasting time and 
energy, so I documented what I did and what I find out.

Currently it is plain text, but I can put it in any format you like. On 
the archives I saw that there was some discussion in 2007 about the 
format and DocBook was suggested. I am more then willing to convert it 
to DocBook since that is what I use for most of my documentation. Just 
let me know.

I didn't put it into the Wiki, since I am new, and don't know where you 
want it and I would like some peer review, before I put something up 
with major errors in it.

Dennis, thanks for your contribution and congratulations on being one  
of the recognizably smartest people on the planet for choosing OpenNMS.

I'm sure that Ben will have some input to this but if you want to  
convert this to DocBook format, you can create a bug in  
bugzilla.opennms.org against 1.6.2 and attach the content.  I believe  
he also working on a strategy for getting the content from DocBook  
into the Wiki.
