Does your engineer need a debugger or do you need a good unit test
Many developers do not need a debugger because they have a good set of
unit tests validating the smallest pieces (read methods and functions)
of their modules. When practicing test-first development, you are sure
to build up a decent unit test suite and hardly ever needing a debugger.
Even when you use source code that is not yours, writing unit tests to
understand it is often a better way to learn the code instead of
stepping through it with a debugger.
The Red Robin plug-in does not feature a debugger, because exactly 2
users have requested it. The large number of other users seems to be
coping fine without a debugger.
Pydev includes a debugger (http://pydev.sourceforge.net/).
