Tux Paint

Hi,

I have tried this on a Mac Book Pro core duo (intel) and get similar  
results as the colors all seem to be off.  I was using an Epson R200  
color inkjet printer using the built in printing driver.  I am not  
getting the white as black or black as white though.

Please let me know if there is anything specific that you would like  
me to test.

I assume I'm stating the obvious here, but anyway, white turning black 
and blue turning orange sounds like the colorspace is inverted (like 
doing an invert in Photoshop or similar programs). If you don't get 
white turning into black, there might be two different problems.

Well, I'm TOTALLY unfamiliar with the OS X printing code, since it's
Cocoa(?).  All I know is it's not worked properly for countless users
since v. 0.9.15. :^(  Probably could do with a major overhaul.

Anyone know a Mac programmer with some free time?  I can test on a PPC
Mac Mini, at least printing via a Linux box (connected to a parallel-port
HP Deskjet) running CUPS...

Quick update from a Mac programmer with no free time!  ;-)

I took a quick look at the printing code and *think* I found the =20
source of the endian problem.  Of course, having only a PowerPC Mac, =20
I can't verify this, but if anyone with an Intel Mac can test the =20
printing with the following build, that would be helpful:

Typing in the print dialog box has been fixed in this version too, so =20=

you can specify a scaling factor if the image prints out on two =20
pages.  I've been working on a new printing dialog pane with an =20
option for Tux Paint to automatically scale the image to fit the page =20=

(since guessing a scaling factor kind of sucks), but this has been =20
stalled for a bit.  Being on a three week business trip in Paris =20
isn't helping either - on weekends and evenings, I'm thinking, the =20
Eiffel Tower or Tux Paint printing fixes, the Louvre or better auto =20
print-scaling in Tux Paint?  Alas, Tux Paint isn't winning out in =20
these deliberations :-)

When I'm back, I'll try to finish up that extra pane and get it into =20
the official build asap!

Excellent!  I forget -- do you have CVS write access on SourceForge?
Would you like it?  Otherwise, just send me the patch (or just the
updated Mac files, since noone else has touched them since 0.9.16 was
released).

non-Intel Macs:

The first build may have had a problem with the little endian #ifdef  
I added.

I do have CVS access, so I'll submit changes directly once they are  
cleaned up.  I'll give SVG a try when I'm back from my trip.

Hmm.. I can't quite explain this.  The print dialog still appears for  
me.  What happens when Tux Paint Config is set up to "Always Show  
Printer Dialog"?  Does the dialog show up after the pressing the  
print button?

I have set default to landscape, since Tux Paint pictures are painted  
in landscape mode.  Of course, this can be changed back to portrait  
in the print dialog, provided it appears ;-)

Crud. Just tested 0.9.16 on WinXP (with "Only when [Alt] is pressed" option
set (the default) in Tux Paint Config), and when I held [Alt] as I clicked
'Print', after hitting "Ok" to confirm I wanted to print, it just printed...
no WinXP print dialog appeared.

Ditto for if I keep [Alt] down as I click "Ok."

So, shoot, something broke with this feature, since an earlier version. :(

this turned up earlier:

for reasons which escape me right now, there is a Windows-only option
called --printcfg which you need to add to the shortcut when launching
Tux Paint. This causes the "Show Printer" options in Tux Paint Config to
be honoured.

For example, the desktop shortcut "Target:" should be changed to this:

"C:\Program Files\TuxPaint\tuxpaint.exe" --printcfg

Alternatively, create a file in the TuxPaint directory above named
"tuxpaint.cfg" and put this line in it:

printcfg=yes

this will affect all users.
I guess this is a bug.

It's basically my fault, the installer used to ship a default tuxpaint.cfg 
file with this single setting in it, but the option should probably just be 
removed or the default changed. I'll take a look at it when I get a chance,

PPC emulator, "Rosetta":

Note that Tux Paint 0.9.17 will have improved support for portrait
displays (e.g., tablet PCs), so it would be best if it printed as close
to full-page as possible, at least by default.  (That is, if the Tux Paint
screen has a portrait canvas, don't print THAT in landscape, otherwise you're
wasting paper :^) )
