DSpace is limited to publication data, and DC metadata is a quagmire.
Making tags for dc.identifier.orcid would only add to the confusion. What happens when there are multiple co-authors? We face this "many-to-many" mapping problem not only on authors, but also on grant funding, and journal ranking.
In our DSpace instance of the HKU Scholars Hub, we use external tables to supplement DSpace & DC. In this example,
* Co-authors show linkage to their individual Hub author profile, affilation, and Scopus AU-ID record. We will do similar for ORCID.
* Funder information shows name of funder next to its own grant number
* ISSN numbers show individual linkage to JCR and SciMago rankings
