Hi,

which HQ Agent version are you running ?
There is an open issue on HP-UX

Do you have such long commands in your processlist ? Is there a way for you to use an alternate Process Table Query ?

is oracle actually the name of the running process ? I think there are always the same executable names only with different path names to it ? Is that right ?
If so could you please check out Exe.Name 
Maybe you could attach the output of the processlist (java -jar sigar.jar ps) to this thread ?

Our HP hosts are v11.11 (64 bit) and the agent version is HQ 3.2.1
I've tried to download and run sigar 1.6 but get the same outputs.. 
:-(

Seems to be a command-launch related issue, but i don't understand why
some strings works and other not, regardless of the string lenght.

Hi Mirko :

In this host we've a few oracle databases running, so all the processes of these
databases contains the string oracle, this is why we want to search using the
string "bdfn1p" to group only the processes of one specific database.

In the attached txt i've put the output of a coupe of 'ps -ef ' commands and the output
of the "java -jar sigar.jar ps" command.

thanks for sending the output of the ps commands.
You where using these queries:

sigar> ps State.Name.eq=oraclebdfn
can not work because it doesn't match oraclebdfn1p, please try ps State.Name.ct=oraclebdfn or State.Name.sw=oraclebdfn or Exe.Name.eq=oraclebdfn1p


sigar> ps State.Name.eq=bdfn1p  
does not work, because there is no process with name   bdfn1p in your process table

I still think it is a PTQL problem and not an HP/UX related issue. Could you try the commands above please ?

Mmm.. unfortunately i've already tested these commands :

sigar> ps State.Name.eq=oraclebdfn                
sigar> ps State.Name.ct=oraclebdfn
sigar> ps State.Name.sw=oraclebdfn
sigar> ps State.Name.ct=bdfn
sigar> ps Exe.Name.eq=bdfn1p
This method has not been implemented on this platform
sigar> ps Exe.Name.ct=bdfn

I've also tried using ct=oraclebd* or =*bdfn* but no output
:-(

We have some similar process groups in linux and the command works fine,
so i think it's related to this platform's method implementation.

I believe the system ps command is displaying argv[0] of the process.  This might work for you:
ps State.Name.eq=oracle,Args.0.sw=oraclebdfn
