As some of the readers on this list know, I have been an advocate for
library use of open source software for several years. I am about to take
my advocacy one step further by representing Index Data products and
services to US libraries as the company's US Marketing Manager.
The code writers of Index Data think the time is ripe to develop a business
model for marketing open source library applications to US libraries. I
agree, and am honored that they have given me the responsibility of helping
them develop that business model and of building a market for their open
source products in the US.
Since I believe in openness in general, not just in software development, I
would like to meet with members of the library open source community at the
upcoming ALA Conference in San Diego to share with those present the
software development and marketing strategies we at Index Data are
considering, and to get your feedback and hear your ideas on what sorts of
business strategies can best support the needs of libraries and promote the
use of OSS in libraries in general.
Since I cannot attend the OSSIG on Sunday afternoon, January 11th, due to a
NISO commitment, I would like to invite everyone who is interested in
discussing Index Data's software development and marketing plans to come to
the Westin Horton Plaza lobby (910 Broadway Circle) later that evening at
8:00 p.m. From there we will, I am sure, gravitate to the bar area to help
lubricate the conversation.
Because any follow-up response on my part might be seen as an inappropriate
commercial use of this list, I will not respond on list to any comments or
questions, but only to individuals directly. Hope to see you in San Diego.
