You need to run configure within msys.
There is an installation guide with wxwidgets.
mkdir build-debug, cd build-debug, ../configure and so forth.
Just follow the instructions.
However, it didnt work in my case.
After running configure make produces an error and quits for some
unclear reason (see discussion forum on wxwidgets).
There is an workaround using the delivered makefiles and to use
mingw32-make as suggested in one of those threads
in the forum.
PS: everything works fine with wxwidgets version 2.8.12
