Thanks David, it seems you were correct; I thought I had all the dev
packages installed but was apparently missing libgtk2.0-dev.
Which leads to another question: is it possible to build a .deb package
instead of calling "make install" directly? I know that doing so is
possible on RPM-based systems using the .spec file but am much less
familiar with apt.
