I wouldn't format ext2 on the sd card. Too easy to corrupt the file system.

Instead: create a qt4 directory in /usr/lib

make symbolic links to the individual libraries on the sd card.

you can link /usr/lib/qt4/libQtGui.so.4 and /usr/lib/qt4/libQtGui.so.4 
to the libQtGui.so.4.4.0 file on the fat16 partition.

This is what I did.
