Is that the name of the library you depends on? I would imagine that the library would be called 'libalsa' or something like that. 2) Would it make sense to integrate this with the 'audio' package, or is a separate package to be preferred? Not sure which version that is required though. A did a quick search and I can't find anything. I have looked a little bit at the ASIO drivers as an option to add Windows audio support. I'm not sure how to deal with licenses issues though. From what I understand Qt also provides a simple cross-platform API (phonon) for sound. If Octave in the future will depend on Qt then it might make sense to use this for sound as well. Søren

We're working together on an OpenGL/Freetype renderer that can be used by a backend. Shai is working on an FLTK backend (inherited from octplot) that will likely be included into core octave. I'm working on a Java-based backend (inherited from JHandles). Both use the same OpenGL renderer. No Qt here.... Michael.
