Hi all.
I'd like to suggest the following enhancement:
MadWifi should be made capable of identifying the actual chipset that is
used on the cards it recognizes upon load. This could be implemented by
reusing much of the code of ath_info. That way we could hopefully reduce
the cases where users are misled by wrong chipset identification from
lspci.
I'm aware that this is somehow a duplication of code, since the HAL
certainly has similar code. However, the HAL does not reveal detailed
information about the recognized chipset(s), as far as I know. The benefit
of being able to provice users with a reliable information about the
chipset IMO outweights the disadvantage of this "duplication".
If this feature gets introduced in trunk, it should be backported to the
0.9.3 release branch as well.
Comments?
Bye, Mike
PS: In case this idea is accepted, who would be willing to work on it?
Personally, I'm not feeling capable of this task due to a lack of
knowledge about how ath_info works, and I won't find the time to work on
it anytime soon either. It would be great if someone else would volunteer
here.
