While you wait for the MiKTeX package to be fixed, you can download the
latest version of camel from CTAN, install it manually in your local
root, and rebuild the FNDB. Provided the local root comes before the
install folder in your list of roots, MiKTeX will then use the manually
installed one and ignore the one installed by MPM. Depending on how
camel uses index.sty, you might even be able to put the latest index.sty
in your local root without having to install the rest of the package.
In either case, once the version in MPM is fixed you can remove the
manually installed files and rebuild the FNDB to go back to automatic
