Regarding the level of commitment required of GSoC mentors, I think the
most accurate picture would come from actual, recent participants.
Short of that, the GSoC "Advice for Mentors" page is here:
There is a tonne of useful information on that page, not just for GSoC
but generally useful for dealing with students in internships, etc...
