Yes! Many thanks. smartctl -d ata -a /dev/sda on grml 0.9 on smartctl
5.36 worked! Got full SMART results on the hardware in question. This
eliminates a lot of suspects. I apologize to Gigabyte, their recent
BIOS, and the Intel SATA AHCI BIOS 1.07.
Now, the problem should be either in smartctl or the AHCI driver?
