OOOOOH! you're using the debian packaging stuff! just a note: i know i very
rarely update the debian packaging info, and also rarely update the rpm .spec
files. the debian stuff is particularly maintained by the debian packagers and
so i tend to leave it alone. you might want to always double check the debian
package meta data is up to date with the library version that configure uses as
we dont do a great job of keeping it up to date. :)
