I have no particular objection to have renumbering the errors, but we
don't ever return the errors to my knowledge. The old code only uses
them to look up an error message, and the new code passes it to
trigger_error() when there is an error condition. We just return true
or false (or some value) under normal conditions.
Am I missing the point?
