Direct Rendering Infrastructure

hey

I got radeon 8500 and use r200 drivers..
please take a look at my XF86Config-4. dri is important. I saw you
hadn't enabled it in the modules section.

I've been so confused on how all of this sticks together. I know DRI is
the 3D part of videocards drivers. I know MESA is a software renderer
voor cards, and I know that XFree houses all of these. But what I don't
know is where 2d Videosupport comes from. Does XFree Inc work on that? I
hope not so, they are busy enough with the rest of the server I'd say.
Does DRI also take care of that? Accelerated 2D support I'd say?
One of the reasons I'm curious about this is that there is no driver for
the ATi rv250 (Radeon 9000) and I"m very anxious on finally using it.
ANybody have a  hint or a clue on when I can expect a driver? just a
basic reasonably speeded 2D version of it. So that I can dump the
VooDoo3 : )
