Just as a point of language usage, Xavier: in English you want to write
"it" for a function or anything else that isn't a human or a domestic
animal. Not "her" or "him". It worked out as readable for us this time
but another time might be ambiguous and hamper delivery of assistance to
Providing missing functions in software which is intended to be portable
between various different kinds of systems is what Autotools is for
(hey, not to confuse other readers: yes, I am the same guy who often
rails against various aspects of Autotools. I am just providing
information, not advocating). I don't know if there are user manuals for
Autotools (Autoconf specifically) in French, but anyway go to
http://www.gnu.org to start looking.
That said, if it was me and the only thing missing was one function that
I just couldn't do without, I wouldn't introduce Autotools just for
that. I'd just provide a substitute in my code. But where there's many
potentially missing functions it has to be acknowledged that Autotools
provides a time-tested and comprehensive solution (methodology) for
addressing this issue.
