First of all, thanks for the new beta, it's great! If it wasn't for the
missing download dialog, the 0.6 version would have been gone for me.
Big yays for the new window placement and the not closing of toolbars on
single clicks. Simple but very pleasant enhancements.
I've been trying this beta for a day now and I found a number of
problems. They may have been mentioned already, but I guess it doesn't
hurt to be complete :-)
This one doesn't like ampersands very much. Netscape changes them to
& in the bookmarks file, but k-meleon doesn't. Apparently k-meleon
puts the text straight into the menu text, which makes and &'s disappear
(and makes the last one a hotkey). A small fix seems in order,
preferably the & method to make it the same as Netscape.
The format of the toolbars.cfg configuration file changed, but the
configuration and explanation doesn't reflect this. I did find it
changed to "ID_, tooltip, cold_bmp, hot_bmp". The dead_bmp option either
disappeared or is broken. Adding a third bmp to the list gives very
This is still a big problem. I'm not sure what is related to the mozilla
bugs and what is related to k-meleon though. I have the following, I try
to go onto an ssl site with a non recognized certificate and I get a
dialog which says so. The following things don't work:
- The "View certificate" opens in a window the same size as the dialog,
which is far too small to be able to read the contents.
- The checkbox for "Remember certificate" doesn't work.
- "Continue" doesn't do anything. The dialog disappears and the page
remains where it was before.
- Sometimes the dialog appears twice.
This was done on a site where the certificate domain matches the real
domain. I tried it by accessing the same site from a different domain
(the ssl mismatch bug?), but the behavior is exactly the same.
This seems rather severe as K-Meleon is still not useable to browse to
ssl sites with unrecognized certificates.
I don't have any knowledge of mozilla and mfcembed internals, but I
noticed that the dialogs use the mozilla xul. However, from the bug
reports in mozilla it appears that mfcembed is supposed to have its own
dialogs for this. Isn't that a better option to use? Or am I missing
something (which is very well possible).
Not a bug really. But shouldn't the extra component to activate colored
visited links be includen in the k-meleon distribution? It's standard
and having to download it separately seems very odd.
The "Go" menu still isn't correct when a second window has been opened
and closed (bug #55). This is a particularly inconvenient one and should
really be fixed for 0.7.
No bug, but a suggestion. In the history menus there is no way to
distinguish between several pages with the same title. Netscape solves
this by showing the URL in the status bar. I think this would be very
easily implemented in k-meleon as well. (suggestion also in bug #104)
Frames can't seem to be reloaded separately yet. (bug #105, still a
mozilla/mfcembed limitation maybe?)
There is still a big problem with the combination of frames, history and
reloading pages. The behavior is partly described in bug #86. The "Go"
menu history does not show pages browsed within a frames page. The
back/forward button history menus do show these pages. This is
consistent with Netscape behavior and personally I find this perfect.
However, when pressing reload or leaving the page for different site,
the "Go" menu expands to suddenly show all the browsed frames as well.
This is NOT consitent with Netscape behavior. After this, the history in
the "Go" menu doesn't follow the back/forward button anymore. I assume
that is because the separate pages from the frames shouldn't be in
there. The "wrong reload" part described in bug #86 is fixed though.
From the list I understood that the Google search location was supposed
to be changed, but I see it's still the same as in 0.6. Should it be ?
I hope these reports are helpful and have enough detail. Maybe too much
Keep up the good work.
