Whenever I opened a game that made use of my 3D accelerator, the
settings would begin to load, the video mode would change as if
beginning to load the game, and then it would freeze. Mouse could still
move, but everything was frozen.
Turned out the symbolic links to libGL and libglide were pointing at the
wrong modules. Well, I fixed them, and this time when Quake III Arena
started up, it got the colors right, but didn't really put them in the
The best way to describe it would be if one pictured my monitor split in
to six squares (two rows, three columns). In the bottom left hand square
there were many little lines and triangles, all of which originated at
the bottom left hand corner of the screen and never passed beyond the
edge of that square. The background was black; the rest of the screen
was also black (i used the square visualization so one could imagine
exactly how much of my screen this was happening with). Well, it hadn't
frozen; when I moved the mouse, one of the triangles moved as well. And
pressing arrows on the keyboard also caused some color changes. But
since I couldn't see what I was selecting, it was particularly hard to
exit the program (I eventually had to ssh in from another nearby linux
box and kill the process).
Any ideas as to why it's doing this and how I might fix it? I've got the
latest version of XFree (I upgraded it two or three weeks ago), but I
don't know what that version is. It's not the CVS, though.
Thanks ahead of time for the help!
